Dematerialised security
Dematerialised security are securities produced and registered electronically.
While decades ago securities were printed deeds without exception, today publicly issued papers exist only in dematerialized form in many countries. In most places, share and bonds are only registered in securities accounts. However, many countries still have printed securities, such as government securities.
Dematerialized securities are subject to the form and content requirements set out in the laws establishing capital market rules, just like printed securities. The two versions differ only in appearance.
Dematerialized papers are also created and registered electronically. Dematerialized securities can only be registered securities. Because they were dematerialized, they do not have a serial number, the owner's name and data for clear identification are contained in the securities account for registration.
